July 31st, 2023, was a day filled with reflection and purpose as I traveled to honor lives through the timeless sound of the bagpipes. It’s always a privilege to bring music to moments of remembrance, and this day was no exception.

The morning began with a drive to Memorial Park Main in Gainesville, a serene location where I frequently play for graveside services. The sound of the pipes provides a poignant and powerful backdrop for honoring loved ones, and it’s always humbling to be part of these deeply personal ceremonies.
Later in the day, I navigated through Atlanta’s infamous traffic to Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, another place where I often play. The journey, though long, felt meaningful, as each performance is an opportunity to connect with families and help them find solace in the music and their heritage.
Playing at memorial services is a responsibility I approach with the utmost care. The bagpipes’ rich and evocative sound has a unique way of capturing the emotions of the moment—grief, love, and remembrance—and offering comfort to those in attendance.
Days like this remind me why I do what I do. It’s not just about playing music; it’s about being present for families during some of their most difficult times and using the power of music to create moments of healing and reflection. It’s an honor I hold close to my heart.
Here are some examples of hymns that I played at the graveside:
