Honoring a Hero: The Memorial Service of Steven Wesley Linthicum

On June 17, 2023, I had the honor of playing at the graveside service of Steven Wesley Linthicum at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Steven was a retired fireman and public servant who dedicated his life to serving the communities of Gwinnett and Atlanta. It was a privilege to be part of a service that celebrated his legacy and the impact he had on so many lives.

Georgia Memorial Park is a place I visit several times each year to perform for families in their moments of remembrance. On this particular day, the service for Steven was especially poignant. A fire truck stood proudly nearby, ready to sound the “last call,” a solemn and powerful tribute to his years of service. The presence of his large family and many fellow firemen underscored the deep respect and love that surrounded him.

The sound of the bagpipes added an emotional layer to the ceremony, echoing through the serene surroundings of the cemetery. It’s always humbling to provide music for moments like these, where the melodies can express what words often cannot. Playing for Steven’s memorial was an opportunity to honor not only his life but also the dedication and bravery of all who serve in our communities.

Amazing Grace Bagpipe Duet

It was a beautiful service, filled with heartfelt tributes and gestures that reflected the incredible legacy Steven left behind. As the notes of the bagpipes carried through the air, they served as a reminder of the enduring strength and compassion of a life well-lived. Being part of such a meaningful farewell is a privilege I will always cherish.
